The 3-day Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross Festival September 28th-30th, 2018 in Iowa City is the largest cyclo-cross event in North America. Our marquis event is the Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup, the second leg of a 9-race global cyclo-cross series featuring the world’s best bike racers. The World Cup is televised globally and governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the same governing body as the Tour de France. Nations select athletes to represent their country the same way Olympic athletes are chosen. Jingle Cross is the most famous North American cyclo-cross event with more World Cups than any other location. Our 2017 World Cup broadcast audience was 11.71 million television viewers in primary and secondary coverage and was seen in dozens of countries (Nielsen) including the US broadcasted by the NBC Sports Network.
Cyclo-cross is a thrilling spectator friendly bike race on many types of terrain. It has big climbs, steep descents, grass, mud, sand, dirt and even snow in winter months. Cyclo-cross differs from traditional bike racing with obstacles that force riders off the bike making them run carrying their bike. Courses are 2.5-3.5 km per lap, no two courses are the same, and weather can play a major factor. The men race for 60 minutes while the women frace for 50 minutes in completely separate races. Tires can flat, bikes can break, or just get too muddy to ride. There's even a pit with mechanics and pit crew. It's a bike race, steeplechase, and NASCAR all rolled into one.
